Seidler Horizon Refurbishment & Acoustic Engineering

  • Service Category: High-End Architectural Refurbishment & Apartment Fit-out
  • Location: Darlinghurst, NSW 2010 (Sydney City)
  • Technical Specialty: High-performance acoustic engineering and strict high-rise building controls

This Darlinghurst (2010) project represents a highly technical architectural refurbishment within Harry Seidler’s iconic Horizon building. Working alongside Stephen Collier Architects, Simpson & Co Projects executed a spatial re-imagining of a 70sqm footprint, mirroring the innovative approach taken by the architect in his own residence within the same building.

The project challenges the traditional mantra of “bigger is better,” proving that clever intent and precisely configured proportions can transform a standard layout into a luxurious, multi-functional sanctuary. The interior reconfigures itself like a spatial jigsaw, utilising moveable walls and 150 custom-designed doors to transition from a generous one-bedroom open-plan space into a functional two-bedroom residence.

As specialised urban builders, we navigated the strict building controls of the Horizon while achieving superior acoustic outcomes in collaboration with Acoustic Dynamics. Every detail—from the clever joinery to the integrated LED lighting—was executed with the precision required to honour the building’s Seidler legacy. The result is a benchmark for modern apartment living, where small-scale design delivers large-scale architectural impact.
