The Ooralba Estate project is a definitive example of large-scale architectural construction management. Originally conceived as a standard renovation to a Tuscan inspired farmhouse, the scope evolved into a comprehensive $8.5 million estate expansion. Simpson & Co Projects was tasked with delivering this transformation while the property continued to function as an active commercial farm, requiring precise coordination of works and site logistics.
As specialised high-end builders, we managed a peak workforce of up to 80 tradespeople on-site in a single day. The project demanded extreme technical scale, to give some context involved over 1,000 sqm of roofing and the construction of 100 linear metres of hand-laid stone walling integrated into the estate’s dam landscape, and then further integrated into the building itself. Navigating the unpredictable “four seasons in one day” weather of Kangaroo Valley required a disciplined project management approach to maintain structural integrity and schedule.
Designed by Nic Graham & Associates, the estate was built to accommodate international occupants featuring sophisticated defensive infrastructure, and rapid-response hydraulic systems. While the expansive gardens designed by Hugh Main of Spirit Level Landscapes were outside our primary construction scope, we provided critical management of the built elements required to ensure their seamless integration with the main residence. Despite the immense complexity and high-stakes requirements, Ooralba Estate remains as pristine today as the day it was handed over—a testament to our focus on delivering generational quality for our most discerning clients.
